Recently I acquired a pet quality Black Copper Marans rooster (affectionately named Brewster). He is a sweet and conversational little fellow. He allowed me to snap a few photos of him while he strutted around my yard. Black Copper Marans is a breed of chicken most known for 2 of it’s most popular characteristics:

1. The gorgeous, chocolate brown mahogany eggs that the hens lay.
2. Their fabulous visual appeal!!

The Marans is a French chicken breed,  dating back to the 12th century from Marans, France. Since then the breed was further refined for its ideal traits, resulting in the bird we have today!!

FUN FACT: During the Second World War, the Germans occupied the Marans area and due to restriction on movement, farming in the area was almost reduced to nothing & marketing of the breed was impossible. Just after the war, a cooperation was formed to  bring the breed back to its former glory. Fortunately it was very successful!!
